Every child is unique, precious and needs to be loved, cared and protected. And that's what exactly we at Prithvi Innovations do.
Celebrating, upholding and honoring the dignity, self- esteem, uniqueness and innocence of every child we come across during our various eco-initiatives is what we believe in and strive for .
Ensuring safe, loving, green ,clean toxic free , healthy environment for our children lies at the core of our programs.
And we do that by connecting them with Nature and its boundless beauty. We help them to dream, to explore, to experiment, to engage, to innovate, to grow into aspiring Green buddies or Friends of Earth, who have the power to be Change Agents or Green Champs.
Sharing a glimpse of how we advocate for their rights and enable them to celebrate their childhood with Nature.
Please watch us in action:
Maximum happiness to Maximum children - that's perhaps the underlying thought not just behind our work on children but also behind the framing of Convention on the Rights of a Child.
So let's go deeper and understand more about UNCRC, as we marked it's 35 years of completion on 20th Nov. World Children's Day just celebrated by us.
The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) is a landmark human rights treaty that has transformed the way the world views and treats children. Adopted on 20 November 1989, the UNCRC is the most widely ratified human rights treaty in history, with 196 countries pledging to uphold the rights and dignity of every child.
Let’s explore the significance, principles, and relevance of this Convention in ensuring a better future for children globally.
What is the UNCRC?
The UNCRC is a comprehensive document outlining 54 articles that detail the civil, political, economic, social, and cultural rights of children. It recognizes children (defined as individuals under 18 years) as independent rights holders and emphasizes their right to survival, development, protection, and participation.
Core Principles of the UNCRC
Non-discrimination: Every child has equal rights, irrespective of race, gender, religion, or background.
Best Interests of the Child: All decisions affecting children must prioritize their well-being and rights.
Right to Life, Survival, and Development: Governments must ensure children grow in a safe, healthy, and supportive environment.
Participation: Children have the right to express their opinions and be heard in matters that affect them.
Why is the UNCRC Important?
The UNCRC ensures that children’s rights are protected and upheld in various domains, including:
Education: The right to free primary education (Article 28) promotes equitable access to learning opportunities.
Health and Well-being: The right to the highest attainable standard of health (Article 24).
Protection from Abuse and Exploitation: Safeguarding children from violence, neglect, and exploitation (Articles 19 & 32).
Identity and Belonging: The right to a name, nationality, and family (Articles 7 & 8).
Current Challenges in Child Rights
While the UNCRC has made significant strides, challenges persist:
Child Labor: Millions of children worldwide are still engaged in hazardous work.
Child Marriage: Cultural practices continue to undermine children’s rights in some regions.
Access to Education: Gender inequality, poverty, and conflict hinder universal education.
Climate Change: Disasters disproportionately affect children, threatening their future.
What Can We Do?
Advocate for Policies: Push for stricter enforcement of child rights laws.
Raise Awareness: Educate communities about the UNCRC and its principles.
Support Organizations: Partner with NGOs and global bodies working for children.
Engage Youth: Empower children to participate in shaping policies that affect them.
